Averett University Athletics issued the following announcement on June 9
Averett University men's golf freshman Casper Andersen was voted as the 2021 Virginia Sports Information Directors (VaSID) College Division State Rookie of the Year as the organization announced its all-state honors on Wednesday. Andersen also earned a spot on the VaSID All-State Second Team.
A native of Liers, Norway, Andersen led Averett with a scoring average of 75.2 over 15 rounds in six events this spring. He totaled four top-25 finishes and two top-five finishes. His best score was a 3-under-par 69 at the Hampden-Sydney Tiger Invitational, where he turned in a season-best 4-under 140 for a fifth-place finish. Andersen's top finish was third at the Hampden-Sydney Invitational.
Andersen is the second consecutive VaSID Rookie of the Year selection for the Cougars, who spent most of the spring in two top-25 polls.
