City of Danville issued the following announcement on July 29
Danville Public Library is again hosting the annual Supplies for Fines program, encouraging patrons to donate school supplies in exchange for fine reductions.
Between August 2 and September 4, patrons may donate unopened school supplies. For each donation, library staff will wave $2 from current fine totals up to $50. All donated items will support Danville Public Elementary Schools. Library staff will only accept new, undamaged, and unopened items.
“Supplies for Fines presents an excellent opportunity for residents to give back to the community,” said Circulation Supervisor Nancy Thompson.
The following items will be accepted: crayons, pencils, glue sticks, Ziploc bags (any size), safety scissors, disinfectant wipes, colored pencils, construction paper, dry-erase markers, and single subject notebooks. Travel size, single items, and items marked as free promotional items will not be accepted.
Donations will be accepted during normal business hours at the Ruby B. Archie library building. Danville Public Library is open Mondays through Thursdays, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; Fridays, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; and Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. For more information, call 434-799-5195 or visit www.readdanvilleva.org.
