Averett University Athletics issued the following announcement on Sept. 6
A pair of Averett University football players earned weekly honors from the USA South Conference on Monday. Junior kicker Will Caviness was named the USA South Special Teams Player of the Week, while freshman wide receiver Marquise Woodruff was selected as the USA South Offensive Rookie of the Week.
Caviness, a native of Greensboro, North Carolina, connected on a career-long 38-yard field goal in a 31-24 loss to Ferrum last Saturday. Caviness was also a perfect 3-for-3 on point-after-touchdown attempts.
Woodruff, from Lynchburg, Virginia, caught three passes for 41 yards in his collegiate debut. He averaged 13.7 yards per reception with a long catch of 18 yards.
Averett (0-1) returns to action at home on Saturday against Christopher Newport University.
