City Council Continues Push for Vaccine

27

City of Danville issued the following announcement on Sept. 8

City Council members on Tuesday night continued their push for citizens to get inoculated against COVID-19 amid an ongoing surge in cases.

Vice Major Dr. Gary Miller said unvaccinated citizens endanger countless others.

“Every person that doesn’t get a shot can expose 15 or 20 or 30 people, relatives and first responders,” he said.

Miller said that local health care systems are overwhelmed.

“Please get your vaccination,” Miller said. “This is not a joke, this is not political, this is real. People are dying every day.”

Councilman Lee Vogler added, “I feel like we’re repeating ourselves here. In the last few weeks alone this community has lost several people to COVID-19, many of which were well known in this community.”

On Tuesday, there were 24 new cases of COVID-19 reported in Danville and Pittsylvania County.

In other matters, the City Council voted to:

  • Rezone 180 American Legion Blvd. to M-R multifamily residential.
  • Rezone 212 Jefferson Ave. to M-R multifamily residential.
  • Amend the zoning ordinance regarding short-term rentals.
The City Council also held first readings on three items involving grants and economic development incentives. A first reading is an introductory step required by City Code. City Council will vote on these matters at its next meeting.
