Averett University women's lacrosse dropped its first USA South game of the year in a 22-8 loss to Meredith College on Wednesday night on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Averett (4-3, 2-1 USA South) saw senior Elizabeth Peasley quickly give the Cougars an early 1-0 lead after capitalizing on a free position attempt. Meredith (4-3, 2-0 USA South) then rattled off back to back goals to take a 2-1 lead.
Freshman Faith Bowlin answered with two consecutive goals inching the Cougars back in front in the first quarter. Bowlin tallied four goals, four ground balls and one assist while helping the Cougars record the most goals they have ever scored against the Avenging Angels in program history.
Meredith ended the first quarter on a 7-1 run and lead the Cougars 10-4. Eight more goals in the second period of action gave the Avenging Angels an 18-6 lead at the half.
Junior Raven Felder tallied two goals and also collected three ground balls while fellow junior Kelsey Steckroth added a goal as well.
Averett is back in action Saturday, March 26, when they travel to Methodist University at 1 p.m.
