Averett University baseball downed Ferrum College 6-2 on Wednesday afternoon at Owen-Fulton Field.
Junior David Asbill only allowed two runs earning his thrid win on the year and helped Averett (9-15) upend Ferrum (11-12) who will soon count as a conference series once the Cougars move to the ODAC.
Averett broke the scoring in the bottom of the first after junior Nolan Maccabe doubled to lead things off and came around to score later in the inning on a fielders choice. The Cougars kept it rolling in the second tacking on four more runs to lead the Panthers 5-0 after two innings.
Junior Kyle Wilson sent a rocket out over the left field fence to extend the Averett lead to 6-2 and the Cougars never looked back. Senior Brandon Hatcher added a hit and a RBI for Averett as well.
Sophomore right-hander Shane Michel relieved Asbill and finished the game off for the Cougars.
The Cougars are back in action when they host N.C. Wesleyan for a three game series starting Saturday at noon with a double header.
