Animal Control Serves Search Warrant, Seizes 68 Dogs in Poor Condition

12

With assistance from the Pittsylvania County Sheriff's Office and Pittsylvania County Pet Center, Animal Control Officers with the Pittsylvania County Department of Public Safety served a search warrant at a residence on Peninsula Place in Hurt, Virginia on the afternoon of April 12, 2022. During the search, Animal Control Officers observed over 60 dogs in the residence. There were male and female dogs of a variety of breeds and ages. Many of the dogs appeared to be in poor condition. A veterinarian was also on-site at the time of the search to initially evaluate the dogs.

It was determined that the condition of the animals warranted the seizure of 68 dogs for further evaluation and care. This is an ongoing criminal investigation and no other information can be released at this time. Animal control officers are in discussions with the Commonwealth Attorney’s Office and charges are pending against the owner of the dogs.

The Pittsylvania Pet Center is currently closed to the public as the staff assist with this matter.
