Averett University's Department of Athletics was one of less than 25 schools nationwide to receive the 2022-24 NCAA Division III Ethnic Minority and Women's Internship Grant.

The NCAA Division III Ethnic Minorities and Women's Internship Grant funds full-time, entry-level athletics administrative positions for two academic years. Averett is using its grant for a coordinator of events, operations and student-athlete development within the Department of Athletics. Averett is currently seeking applicants for the grant-funded position.

"As we continue to promote diversity, equity and inclusion within the university and within athletics, this NCAA grant will allow Averett to further that mission," said Meg Stevens, vice president, director of athletics and campus operations. "I am thankful the NCAA provides this prestigious opportunity for an individual seeking a career in intercollegiate athletics. This position will benefit our growing Department of Athletics and help maintain our focus on providing a positive student-athlete experience."

According to the NCAA, the grant is "designed to provide financial assistance to the division's member schools and conferences that are committed to enhancing ethnic minority and gender representation in entry-level, intercollegiate athletics administrative positions."

Averett was one of 23 institutions to receive the two-year grant this spring.

"Diversity and access are major points of pride for all of us at Averett, and we know these assets only make us stronger," Averett President Dr. Tiffany M. Franks said. "We are grateful for this grant which aligns so well with our strategic institutional priorities and initiatives centered around diversity, equity and inclusion, with a specific focus on diversifying our faculty and staff."
