Prizery to offer Fall Classes for Children and Adults

The Prizery is pleased to announce the upcoming lineup for fall classes and workshops. Executive Director, Melanie Cornelison-Jannotta says, “There is literally something for everyone! From pre-school to adult, and classes in visual arts, dance, theatre, and more, it is a very diverse schedule.”

In visual arts we have Figure Drawing with instructor Ron Miller. This class is offered for ages 18 and up and will spend time learning to draw the human figure, both draped and undraped. This six-week intensive will be offered on Saturdays from 12:00 pm – 2:00 pm from September 10 – October 15. The cost for the class is $100.

For students ages 8-15, we are excited to welcome back Kristen Lowery to teach Pottery. Get muddy and learn the basics of hand built and wheel thrown earthenware pottery. No experience is necessary. This class meets November 7 – 10 from 5:00 – 7:30 pm, and November 17 from 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm for glazing. There is a maximum of 14 students for this class. Cost is $125, which includes all materials.

If you are looking for a seasonal project, sign up for the Watercolor Christmas Card Workshop. Instructor Margaret Covington teaches techniques on how to create special handmade Christmas cards. Class fee of $25 includes a set of 5 cards and paint. The class will be held on Saturday, November 5 from 2:00 – 4:00 pm and is for ages 15 – adult.

Private voice lessons will be available from Joshua Jannotta. Learn the technique needed to be a better singer. Work on specific music styles, competition or audition material, and develop a portfolio of songs perfect for you. Weekly classes are 30 minutes or 1 hour depending on age and skill level and are for ages 8 to adult. Time and date will be arranged individually with the instructor. Cost ranges from $75 - $125 per month. Classes are offered year-round.

Ever wanted to learn to play the ukulele? Bring smiles to the world as you have a weekly private lesson to learn the ukulele basics including scales, chords, finger positions, strumming patterns, history of the instrument and performance tips. Classes will be weekly for six weeks from October 18 – November 23. Cost for the six-week session is $240 and includes a ukulele. If you already have a ukulele, the cost is $200. Time and day to be arranged with instructor, Brittny Charity Valdes.

An Audition Technique Workshop will be held on Tuesday, October 11.

Ages 7-12 will meet from 5:00 – 6:30 pm, and a parent is encouraged to attend as well. You will learn the basics of the audition process, how to prepare, knowing which parts are right for you, and honing the skills necessary to stand out to any director! Parents, you can learn what questions to ask, what a typical rehearsal/performance commitment looks like, and how to get your child started in the world of theatre. From 6:30 – 8:00 pm, we welcome ages 13 – adult. Learn how to find and prepare audition songs, how to prepare for cold reads or

monologues, what to wear, what roles you will be considered for, and even how to get through a dance audition if you don’t know your right foot from your left. Bring a prepared song or monologue and receive constructive feedback. The cost for either workshop is $15. Instructor is Melanie Cornelison-Jannotta.

Use your newfound audition techniques at auditions for “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever.” This play is based on the book by Barbara Robinson and follows the hilarious events that occur when a Christmas Pageant includes the Herdmans – the worst kids in the history of the world! Auditions will be Tuesday, October 18 at 6:00 pm and will consist of reading from the script. Parts are available for ages 7–adult. Performances will be December 15-18. “The Best Christmas Pageant Ever” is produced through special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc.

Are you interested in writing an original song or completing one you’ve started, but not sure where to start or how to finish? Join local songwriter/performer/producer, Keith Washo, as you explore the power of songs, through a step-by-step approach to crafting, refining, and improving a song. Come with notepad and guitar (or instrument of choice) and be ready to enjoy the fun of music! Cost of the seven-week class is $99. Ages 12 -18 will meet Mondays, September 12 – October 24 from 7:00 – 8:00 pm and ages 19 and up will meet from 8:15 – 9:15 pm.

No experience is necessary for Dance for Musical Theatre! This class is specially made for ages 14–adult who plan to audition for musical theatre productions. Gain stage presence and basic technique in ballet, tap, and jazz. Classes are Wednesdays, October 12 – November 16 from 6:00 – 7:30 pm. Cost is $60. Instructor is Melanie Cornelison-Jannotta.

Thought about taking yoga? This four-week class with instructor Kassie Myers will combine groundbreaking techniques, breathwork, and movement to connect to the self. All bodies are welcome and no experience is necessary. Class meets Monday October 17, October 24, November 7 and November 14. Cost is $40.

Moms and dads of babies and preschoolers – this group is for you! Saturday Morning Storytime with Brittny Charity actively involves the mom, dad, grandparent, etc. with a story and a music circle, including sing-a-longs, percussion jams, and so much more. A morning of story, music and bonding for the family. For adults and infants through age 2, the group will meet on Saturdays, September 17, October 22, and November 12 from 9:00 – 9:45 am, and for adult and kids ages 3-5, the group will meet from 10:15 am – 11:15 am. Classes are $15 per family and an adult must stay for the class!

Pre-registration is required, as we must meet a minimum number of students for the class to be held. A limited number of scholarships based on financial need are available and the application can be found on our website www.prizery.org.
