Averett University director of men's and women's track & field/cross country Matt Logan announced the addition of alumnus Michael Nichols '21 as an assistant coach for Cougars' cross country and track and field. Nichols was a four-year member of the Averett cross country team.
A native of Charlotte Court House, Virginia, Nichols competed in three NCAA Division III Regional meets and was twice named to the USA South Conference's All-Sportsmanship Team. He also received the men's cross country program's service award three times during his career while serving as a team captain from 2018-21.
In addition to running cross country, Nichols also wrestled at Averett.
Nichols graduated from Averett in December 2021 with a bachelor's degree in sports management. He is currently pursuing his master's degree from Averett.
