Aerofarms’ Indoor Farm Now Growing

Mayor Alonzo Jones on Monday joined national, state, and local officials at a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the grand opening of the AeroFarms Danville facility, which the company says is the world’s largest aeroponic smart farm.

Jones said he is proud and happy that AeroFarms put its faith and trust in Danville and the Dan River Region and built this cutting-edge facility here.

“That says so much about the quality and character of our community,” Jones said. “Thank you to the local team and all of our regional and state partners in working with the company to bring us to this point that we celebrate today.”

Jones also recognized Plant Manager Anthony Smith and all the workers attending the ceremony.

“When I look at this new facility, I see people,” Jones said. “I see the faces of workers who are proud to be part of this exciting new venture and have a good job with an innovative and advanced company such as AeroFarms. Let us also celebrate that here today.”

Also speaking were Matthew Lohr, Virginia Secretary of Agriculture and Forestry; Jay Timmons, president of the National Association of Manufacturers; Fifth District Congressman Bob Good; Vic Ingram, chairman of the Pittsylvania County Board of Supervisors; and several company officials.

AeroFarms® is a Certified B Corporation and world leader in indoor vertical farming. The Danville facility is the company’s newest cutting-edge indoor vertical farm, growing award-winning leafy greens that are prized for their elevated flavor by top chefs and homemakers alike.
