Hutchinson records double-double in women's basketball's loss at Roanoke
The Averett University women's basketball team fell on the road at Roanoke College 84-47 on Wednesday night.
Averett (2-7, 0-5 ODAC) trailed Roanoke (5-0, 3-0 ODAC) by just four points at the end of the first quarter. The Maroons would use a 33-16 second quarter to take a 50-29 lead into halftime.
Junior Jihnez Hutchinson recorded a career-high 12 points and 15 rebounds for the Cougars, Hutchinson's double-double led Averett's scoring and rebounding efforts in the outing. Junior Talia Prosper and freshman Taylor Ray each recorded nine points, with seven of Ray's points coming from the charity stripe. Hutchinson and Ray also had a team-high four steals.
As a team, Averett brought down 41 rebounds while scoring 21 points off Maroon turnovers.
Averett is back in action on Saturday when it travels to Shenandoah University for a 2 p.m. tipoff.
