Halifax County schools welcomed 317 5th-grade students in 2023-24 school year

There were 317 5th-grade students enrolled in Halifax County schools in the 2023-24 school year, 11.6% more than the previous year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.

The school that enrolled the largest number of 5th-grade students in the county was South Boston Elementary School.

Within Halifax County schools, the largest number of students were found in 2nd-grade, while 7th-grade had the least students.

Statewide, Halifax County ranked 53rd in enrollment numbers. It was also ranked 53rd the year before.

As of November 2023, according to Public Schools Review, Virginia public schools saw an average student-to-teacher ratio of approximately 1:14, which is better than the national average of 1:15 in public schools nationwide.
