Lunsford nets career-high as women's basketball falls at Piedmont

Averett University Athletics issued the following announcement on Nov. 12

The Averett University women's basketball program traveled to Piedmont University Friday night and fell 85-65 inside Cave Arena.

Averett (0-3, 0-0 USA South) was led by senior Camryn Lunsford who had a career-high 26 points, four rebounds and two assists, along with another career-high in steals with six. Fellow senior Genesis Weiters tallied a season-high 11 points and eight rebounds.

The Cougars only trailed by seven at halftime. Averett earned twice as many second chance points as Piedmont with 16.

Piedmont (3-0, 0-0 USA South) shot a solid 46 percent from the downtown and was led by Klaire Varney who had 18 points.

Averett is back in action in game two of the Piedmont University tournament tomorrow against Huntingdon at 2 p.m.
