Pittsylvania County Partners with BISSELL Pet Foundation for “Empty the Shelters” Holiday Hope Event

21

County of Pittsylvania issued the following announcement on Dec. 7

BISSELL Pet Foundation is bringing hope to homeless pets across the country this holiday season with its “Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope” event, and the Pittsylvania Pet Center is one of more than 200 participating shelters across the country. During the event, which will run from December 6 – 20, 2021, adoption fees are reduced to just $25 through sponsorship from BISSELL, which helps pets find their adoptive families.

“The Pittsylvania Pet Center is happy to announce another great partnership with the Bissell Pet Foundation’s Empty the Shelters Event,” said Pittsylvania Pet Center Director Brent Weinkauf. “This a great opportunity for our loveable animals to find their furever home, just in time for the Holidays. All adoption fees are reduced to twenty-five dollars! We look forward to seeing everyone during this great event! We would also like to thank all of our supporters; together we are making a difference in our animals’ lives!”

Anyone interested in making an adoption during this event can visit the Pittsylvania Pet Center during normal operating hours between December 6-11 and December 13-18. All pet adoptions will cost just $25. The Pittsylvania Pet Center is located at 1180 U.S. Highway 29, Chatham, VA 24531 and is open 12-5 on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday, and 12-6 on Wednesday and Friday.

The Pittsylvania Pet Center has been a “No-Kill” shelter since 2017 while taking in more than 2,000 animals annually. These animals are primarily adopted out or transferred to other shelters. The Pittsylvania Pet Center maintains a 90% save rate annually.

Since its inception in 2016, the Empty the Shelters campaign from BISSELL has helped more than 67,758 pets find homes in shelters throughout the country through reduced adoption fees. During each nationwide event, BISSELL Pet Foundation sponsors reduced adoption fees for $25 or less. This season’s event will be hosted in more than 200 shelters in 40 states.

“Shelters are overcrowded and in desperate need of support due to slowed adoption rates and increased length of stay for pets," said Cathy Bissell, Founder of BISSELL Pet Foundation. “With so many people seeking to add pets to their family around this time of year, our ‘Empty the Shelters – Holiday Hope’ event is the perfect opportunity to make a difference in your community by saving a life and creating space to give another homeless pet a chance.”

Media interested in attending can visit any time during the Pet Shelter’s open hours. Contact Brent Weinkauf at brent.weinkauf@pittgov.org in advance for interviews.
