Football falls to Guilford in home finale on Senior Day
Averett University football dropped its home finale 26-0 to Guilford College on Senior Day Saturday on Daly Field at Frank R. Campbell Stadium.
Guilford (2-7, 1-5 ODAC) got two field goals and a touchdown pass to take a 13-0 lead by halftime. The Quakers pulled away in the third thanks to a 14-yard touchdown pass and a pick-six later in the period to extend their lead to 26-0.
Averett (2-7, 0-6 ODAC) had several promising drives halted by turnovers that included four interceptions and one fumble.
The Cougars' defense was led by senior JaVon Lofton's seven total tackles and senior Isaiah Sharper had six total tackles. Averett also got sacks from seniors Isaac Mosby, Johnathan Terrell and Maleek Pulliam. Senior Carey Dickinson also notched an interception for Averett.
Prior to the game, Averett honored its 24 football seniors, three dance seniors, two cheerleading seniors and three athletic training seniors.
Averett finishes its season on the road against rival Ferrum College on Nov. 12.
